OUR CREATIVE QUILT INSPIRED VALANCES, GLUED ON APPLIQUE BIRD ON A BRANCH VALANCE AND RIBBON TRIMMED VALANCE AND ROMAN SHADE are all made from the same basic box pleat valance pattern! 

 

The valances can be made for windows 28-70" (71-178cm) wide, except for VIEW D.  (NOTE: See View D below for sizing).  All valances have box pleats that fall approximately one-sixth of the window width in from the side edges and kick pleats providing dimension at both ends.  Mounting is simple - each valance is easily attached to a 1" X 3" (2.5cm X 7.5cm) pine board using a staple gun.

 

Here's the scoop on the details added for each View: 

 

VIEW A - YOU MAKE THE FABRIC!  The Patchwork Fabric Valance is made from 9" (23cm) squares of four coordinating fabrics.  The valance gently swoops down to a center depth of 18" (45cm) and the sides are 21" (52.5cm) long.  The box pleats feature inset contrast fabric and a 3/4" (2cm) contrast band adorns the bottom edge of the valance.  For added flair, an optional contrast piping strip highlights the top edge.

 

VIEW B - The Quilt Square Valance features a center quilt square - make ours using FOUR coordinating fabrics OR add your own quilt square design!  The center of the Valance gently curves upward to a center depth of 14" (36cm) and the sides are 21" (52.5cm) long.  The box pleats feature inset contrast fabric and a 3/4" (2cm) contrast band adorns the bottom edge of the valance.  For added flair, an optional contrast piping strip highlights the top edge.

 

VIEW C - The Bird on a Branch Valance features a bird, leaves and branches cut from micro suede fabrics that are fused on the straight edged pleated valance.  Crystal gems or sequins are glued onto leaves for added sparkle.  The valance is  16" (41cm) deep.

 

VIEWS A, B or C -  A pair of sheer Stationary Panels can be added to any of these valances.  The panels are mounted on a simple 1" (2.5 cm) wide curtain rod and fits beneath the valance.

 

VIEW D -The Ribbon Valance and Roman Shade feature 2" (5cm) wide grosgrain ribbon along the bottom edges for dramatic results.  The center depth of the Valance is 16" (41cm) and the sides are 21" (52.5cm) long.  The back of the shade features rows of plastic rings threaded with Roman shade cording, enabling the treatment to be raised and lowered.  Your fabric width determines the width of the shade you can make as there is no seaming - see Fabric Requirement Chart for size range.  Shade and valance are easily stapled to a 1" X 3" (2.5cm X 7.5cm) pine mounting board.

 

 

 

FABRIC SUGGESTIONS:

 

ALL VIEWS:  Light quilting fabrics to mid-weight decorator fabrics such as cotton and cotton blends, linens, jacquards, or other similar weaves. 

 

VIEW A:  Make-Your-Own quilt fabric by selecting FOUR coordinating fabrics.  Choose a contrast fabric for the Front Insets, Band, and Optional top piping strip.

 

VIEW B:  Select FOUR coordinating fabrics for the Center Quilt Square and a solid, tone-on-tone or print fabric that will highlight the featured Square.  Choose a contrast fabric for the Front Insets, Band, and Optional top piping strip.

 

VIEW C BIRD ON A BRANCH VALANCE:  Select a solid fabric or tone-on-tone fabric for the valance and polyester micro suede for the appliqués. 

 

VIEWS A, B or C OPTIONAL PANELS:  Sheer fabric is required.

 

 

 

LINING SUGGESTIONS:

 

ALL VIEWS:  Select a white or off-white drapery lining fabric.  Sun resistant or water resistant linings are recommended.

 

VIEW C PANELS:  No lining is required.

 

PURCHASE LINING SAME WIDTH AS FACE FABRIC, IF POSSIBLE.
